Student Experience
Beginning in their first year, students participate in Cougar Kickoff and Den, which supports ninth-grade students by pairing them with a senior cougar mentor for the year. Sophomores through seniors use this time to prepare for life beyond high school. BHSN has an extensive internship program and a strong partnership with the Hoosier Hills Career Center, providing students with real-world career connections and industry certifications. Learning at North is not just about memorizing facts and figures. Our academic programs are designed to help students think critically, engage purposefully, and be prepared to influence the world positively. BHSN regularly graduates National Merit Scholars, AP Scholars, Cox Scholars, and Wells Scholars. Our academic teams, such as Science Olympiad, Super Bowl, Spell Bowl, and Model UN, regularly qualify for state and national competitions. We have been recognized as a school of distinction by the College Board for our Advanced Placement program.
At Bloomington North, there is something for everyone who wants to get involved. Our comprehensive arts, athletics, and extracurricular programs are among the top in the state. We field 25 athletic teams during the school year that regularly win sectional and regional championships. Most recently, in 2026, the boys track & field team won the state championship. We are also recognized as one of the state’s strongest programs for fine and performing arts. Band, jazz band, and marching band are all state award-winning programs, and our visual arts consistently receive awards and compete nationally. Additionally, we offer more than 50 co-and extracurricular clubs for students to participate in. Options range from a very active Habitat for Humanity club that has completed several builds over its history to a state award-winning yearbook. Students may also apply to create new programs and explore their interests.
